Jonsavage - sample application

This is what I might have written 5 years ago, joining the guild. (slightly outdated set of questions)


How long have you been playing WoW and what do you like about the game?
I've played wow for about a month, and I like how there's lots of different things to do in the game. I haven't followed the Warcraft series that well so there's a lot to learn about the lore for me.

Brief description of your main character and his/her background (if you have one):
Jon is a thoughtful and increasingly powerful mage who has had a somewhat traumatic life. He hasn't really settled down anywhere, but has seemingly seeked danger in different worlds and continents even though he himself claims to be very careful and only doing his best to survive in a hostile world. Perhaps it is his instinct to test how ready he is to face the evils in this world that has driven his journeys.

He's originally from a farming community in Southern Lordaeron, and the first trade that really captivated his curious mind was alchemy. One day in his teens he returned to home village with herbs he had gathered for his experiments from the nearby meadows, only to find his home on the outskirts of the village burned down. His parents' remains were found within the ruins with help of shocked villagers. No-one had been seen near the house before the fire, but everyone blamed it on the orcs, who were just starting attacks in the area, in a campaign that would be known as the second war and would devastate the human kingdoms nearby.

After the war orphaned Jon found himself in New Stormwind. In the middle of the reconstruction of the city, he found mentors and friends in the mage quarter. He studied there and mastered control over the element of ice, whilst fire brought too painful memories to his mind to be really an option.

In time he grew restless in the city, and begun traveling Azeroth and beyond looking for jobs where his new skills could be used. In his travels he encountered two people who seem likely to change his life. He met Willowsmudge, a pink haired gnome, who was travelling with another gnome, Vincit. And he met Camaron, from whom he learned about the Dark Light.

Roleplaying experience
I've done some tabletop roleplaying many years ago in my teens, mostly Rune Quest in Glorantha. I would like to see how roleplaying in WoW works for real. I know the main conventions related to it, such as how and when to act in character etc, and I obey them.

PvE experience:
I've done deadmines twice.

Guild activity: (what guilds have you been in and why did you leave?)
I've been in a guild called Blood Falcons. I joined when it was founded, and let people know I'd be travelling for the next week. Once I got back I didn' see anyone online in the guild for several days, so it seemed like the guild didn't really work out. I left and wrote an goodbye letter explaining the situation for the guild leader. I didn't hear back from him.

Reason for joining the Dark Light – what are you looking for in a guild?
I met Camaron and heard about the guild form him. It sounded good. I'm looking for sensible people to quest and do dungeons and roleplay with.

What have you found difficult in the game – and what are you aiming for?
Staying alive as a mage felt difficult until I learned a bit more about the talent trees. I'm aiming to enjoy the game and level up to see more of the world.

What's your present gaming activity? - e.g. am addicted 24/7; 3 to 4 times a week; just weekends; on and off when feel like it; etc...
I enjoy the game and play most evenings.

Also what role in the future do you see yourself to hopefully take on within the guild? (e.g. Guild leader!! [I wanna take over you all, mwahahaha]; as an officer [I like to help people, and organise things]; just happy to stay a member [I get too stressed when given responsibility; or I dont really have the time to put aside to take on extra roles]; I am planning to stay an initiate because I am not really interested and only want the guild benefits to help me level!! Battlemaster so I can sign away my insanity)
Time will tell. I have other hobbies so it might be difficult to commit to special roles.

Anyone within The Dark Light who might vouch for you?
I don't know if he vouches people but Camaron knows me a bit.

What would make us believe you have a mature attitude?
If you spend time with me you'll notice I'm usually quite patient, and in arguments I often understand both sides a bit. I enjoy finding activities that benefit a whole group, rather than asking or begging for help for things that are good for me. Are those things mature?

How do you see your role in a raid group?
Haven't been in one but probably as someone who figures out what we need to change if things go badly.
